Life insurance approvals are possible… even with a history of basal cell carcinomas!
Here’s another current example about an middle aged male who had a very unique situation involving basal skin skin cancer and chronic prostatitis who illustrates that with a bit of extra effort how we achieve results for our clients.
True Story of a Challenging Basal Skin Cancer Approval
In summary, our client was a middle aged man in his sixties who had faced the triple task of finding a policy because of basal skin cancer and chronic prostatitis.
This case needed a diligent, focused approach. We couldn’t just his case to just any run-of-the-mill company. We had to strategize to get the job done right.
This is not a situation which you would handled by someone who doesn’t specialize in “special risk” health issues. You may get declined if you apply with the wrong company.
I talked to the client and obtained the facts about his case, and set up an email which I sent to companies that specialize in high risk health cases like his and are known to be more lenient such as … companies like Prudential, ING, Transamerica and American General.
Here’s the case summary I put in my draft query to several companies. As you go through the summary, you should ask yourself, “How many agents would have gone to this trouble to get me approved for life insurance?”
Summary of my Trial Offer Request:
Hello, I have a 60 year old male, non smoker, 6’0, 200 lbs.
Very active, publisher/editor of a local online news magazine in Orlando.
3 Possible Health Issues
1. Has a history of 2 basal cell carcinomas:
- In 2000 on his left shoulder was superficial and completely excised, size was .8 X .7 X .1 cm depth.
- In 2002 on right arm, same as above was caught very early and dimensions were .6X.5 X .1 cm depth.
Regular follow ups 2x year with dermatologist. In past 10 years, he’s had a handful of small moles sprayed, never anything to worry about.
His father also had a basal cell skin cancer in his 50’s, similar thing as his son, and is still living at age 90. His mother lived to age 86.
2. He hasn’t seen his regular attending physician in about 3 years.
He says it’s because he’s just been really busy, but before that had very regular check-ups, and he strikes me as someone who is actually quite attentive to his health and very knowledgeable about his health history.
He did see a urologist for a colonoscopy in the summer of 2012 – they removed a polyp which was found to be normal, and he does regular check-ups with his dermatologist 2x per year.
3. He has chronic prostatitis, but psa levels are normal and just gets monitored. No meds for that.
His only medication is for acid reflux. He’s always had good BP (average 127/75). Is married with a 9 year old daughter. Highly educated.
Household income 100K+. Very healthy overall. Has spent a total of 1 night in the hospital since he was 2 years old (a few years ago stayed overnight for observation for some indigestion – treadmill stress test showed all was normal.) He’s a lifetime non-smoker expect for the occasional cigarette he smoked as an 18 year old.
We’re in a competitive bidding situation here, so I’ll probably need to get best class or preferred to get his business. Please let me know your best possible rating you can consider him for. Thanks.
Success in Finding Life Insurance with Trial Offer Request
The results I received ranged from a “standard” to a “Preferred Best” tentative offer from Pruco Life Insurance company. This is an amazing tentative offer.
Please note that although Prudential quoted a “Preferred Best” rate, this is by no means a guarantee that you’ll get offered a Preferred rate if you have a similar health history.
Every health history is unique and you’ll need to speak directly with your agent about your particular case.
