Life Insurance Approval with DUI or DWI

by Chris on July 8, 2009

Since my last post about getting Life Insurance with a DUI or DWI, I’ve gotten some great news.  In my previous article, I mentioned it’s nearly impossible to get life insurance if you’ve had a DUI in the last 2 years.  NOT ANYMORE!  If it was just ONE DUI or DWI, I have good news for you.

Important Announcement: I now have a carrier who will offer a Standard, Table 1 rating to folks with one DUI or DWI in the last 12 months!  The same carrier will also offer their Non Smoker Plus rating if more than one year has passed since the DUI.  This is unheard of in the life insurance industry.

Note: You won’t be able to get quotes for Standard Table 1 from the form on the right so call me for pricing at (619)564-4873.

In order to get these ratings, this carrier will want a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Report).  That means if you’ve had 2-3 speeding tickets in the past 18 months, your offer could move to Standard, table 2.  High consumption of alcohol will also cause problems.  They’ll definitely scrutinize your GGT level, which measures the level of irritation in your liver and indicates alcohol abuse.  If the GGT level is elevated, your underwriter would most likely order a CDT.  A positive CDT test would lead to a decline.

But the good news is now I have life insurance options for folks with one DUI in the past 12 months, and even better in the last 24 months.
